Friends fans were impressed with star Jennifer Aniston after learning which storyline from the hit sitcom she “hated” and was opposed to. The Hollywood superstar, 56, shot to fame playing stylish Rachel Green for 10 years on the iconic series, which is still available on Netflix to this day.

Friends first hit our screens in 1994 and introduced devoted audiences to Rachel and the rest of the friends, made up of Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry).

The show was a global sensation and, despite the final episode airing in 2004, still has millions of fans all over the world who continue to watch it regularly.

There are many famous moments and storylines from its 10-season run - from Rachel and Ross’s first kiss in Central Perk, to Chandler and Monica’s secret romance, as well as Phoebe being a surrogate for her brother’s triplets, plus many more. In the show’s final season though, Jennifer Aniston was “horrified” by a storyline involving her baby daughter Emma entering a baby beauty pageant.

The storyline unfolds in the eighth episode, ‘The One with the Late Thanksgiving’, in which the friends pressure a fed-up Monica to host Thanksgiving dinner, only to all be several hours late for differing reasons.

Rachel and Phoebe are late after Phoebe suggests they enter Emma into a baby beauty pageant where she could win $1,000 (approximately £760). In commentary for the episode, Friends co-creator and writer David Crane revealed Jennifer Aniston was “horrified” by this storyline.

A snippet of the episode and commentary was uploaded to Reddit, where Crane can be heard explaining: “There’s a lot of debate about this baby beauty pageant story. We needed just something at the beginning that would get Phoebe and Rachel to be late and gave us a lot of jokes and was a lot of fun.

“But we were going with, ‘Phoebe’s into a beauty pageant? Rachel goes along with this?’ And when we showed it to the actors, Jennifer had a really strong response.

“She just was horrified that she’s entering her baby in a baby beauty pageant, and we basically said, ‘yeah, you’re right but it’s only one scene and she wins and there’s money’.”

Ultimately Jennifer did film the episode as planned. Crane added: “I think Jennifer didn’t want to make us have to rewrite it so she got on board but it’s definitely a dicey thing. I think had we done a whole story about entering Emma in a beauty pageant, there would have been real trouble.”

In the comments section, Friends fans were keen to share their thoughts. One simply said: “I don’t blame her”.

Another agreed: “Toddler/Baby beauty pageants should not exist, Jennifer is totally right to feel that way. I think it’s just gross and creates several complexes and is a hunting ground for insecurity and fishy behaviour. I was wondering if anyone in the cast disliked this idea”.

A third commented: “and she has every right to be, why make some baby go through that this shouldn't exist”.

Another added: “This is my least favourite Thanksgiving episode. It's SO disjointed. And the baby beauty pageant just doesn't make sense for any of the characters.”
